Museum Committee Meeting Minutes - 01/20/2009
B-29 MUSEUM, INC
MEETING OF JANUARY 20, 2009
The meeting was called to order by Phillip Schulz. In attendance were Gene Rose, George Stevens, Milt Martin, Marsha Brown, A C Boland, Marji Buck, Bud Simmons, and Jack McCawley.
The minutes were read and approved with a correction – it is the 29th Bomb Group.
The memorabilia we are picking up in Illinois should be ready for us in about a month. The information Milt and Marsha sent to Joe Chovelak was not forwarded to Ben Robertson, their president. Marsha has sent Mr Robertson a similar packet, which contains information about our committee, magazines promoting Pratt, and a book about the Pratt Army Air Field. It is hoped that this information will assure Mr Robertson that their records and memorabilia will be properly handled and valued by us. Phillip and Marsha assured them that if the B-29 Museum fails to happen, the Pratt County Historical Museum will display the items.
We have been notified that the Parachute Building will be officially considered for nomination to the National and Kansas Historical Sites at the February 21st meeting, 9:00 a.m., at the Museum Classrooms in the Kansas Museum at 6425 SW 6th Avenue in Topeka.
Milt asked about the official name for the museum. After some discussion, the consensus is that the “Bombers on the Prairie” that we have used informally will serve as the official title, existing under the umbrella corporation of the B-29 Museum, Inc.
Phillip told us that before we can be promised possession of the Parachute Building we have to make a formal presentation of our request, either to the Airport Authority or the City of Pratt. We need to find out who has the final say: the City of Pratt or the Airport Authority.
Milt, Jack, and Phillip are talking with Al Alingh about writing stories about B-29 bases for the Pratt Tribune. These 3 committee members are working on getting the information Al wants. Al will run the stories in June and/or July.
Meeting adjourned. Next meeting: Tuesday, February 17th.
